The Golden Days of Radio

Let’s return to the days of old-time radio through the talents of the CWC Players and the creativity of an original script written by long-time College Club member Carol Parsons, who also serves as director. The always-hilarious CWC Players put their own twist on classic radio, which thrived from the late 1920s through the 1950s.

Benchmark Jazz

Benchmark Jazz is a group of young energetic high school musicians, who have developed a strong passion for jazz music.  The West Chester jazz sextet consists of some of the best young jazz musicians in the area, and primarily feature trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar, and drums.  Their smooth and mellow jazz will include such selections as C'est Si Bon, Satin Doll, Night Train, and Sack Full of Soul, as well as other traditional standards with some jazz improvisation.  So, come prepared to get in the mood to swing, thanks to some talented youthful performers!

Select Ensemble of the Sycamore High School Choral Program

Select Ensemble is the top of six ensembles in the Sycamore High School Choral Program. This mixed group (men and women) features predominantly juniors and seniors, some of whom will go on in music or the performing arts at the collegiate level. Select Ensemble has earned Superior ratings at District and State levels of the Ohio Music Education Association Adjudicated Event. You may have seen Select Ensemble at CCM performing as part of the Feast of Carols or performing with the CCM Wind Ensemble; performing with Country Music Award winner Eric Church at US Bank Arena; and performing with the ‘80s band Foreigner at River Bend Music Center.

The College Club of Cincinnati will celebrate its 125th anniversary this year.  It is appropriate to reflect on the club’s accomplishments in education and philanthropy in the past as we anticipate the expansion of these efforts in the  future.  Gathering information from an historical summary written by Carole Rauf and the talents of Carol Parsons, a skit depicting major events and achievement of The College Club will be presented for the membership at this initial meeting in the new year.      Carol Parsons                         Chairman of the Day

Queen City Chamber Opera

Queen City Chamber Opera was founded by Dr. Isaac Selya in 2012 to advance the careers of emerging opera artists by giving them valuable professional engagements in fully staged productions with a full orchestra.  QCCO performers have been able to continue their careers with many famous opera companies around the country.  You will be happily entertained by Isaac and several of his performers.

Roundabout Opera for Kids

You'll be charmed by the riveting voices and high energy antics of four talented opera singers from ROKCincy performing their twist on Mozart's beloved comic opera, The Magic Flute.  The free, fully staged performances are given to school and community groups who have limited access to arts programming.

Covedale Theatre/Landmark Productions

Mr. Tim Perrino, President/Director of Landmark Productions, will share information about the organization as well as current and upcoming  plays and musicals.  Several professional cast members will also entertain us with their outstanding talents!  We will learn more about the Covedale Theater and the “new” Incline Theater which are both located in Price Hill.

 Do you remember those fabulous showgirls, the friendly nuns, and affable characters from the Old Folks Home?  The CWC Players will reintroduce these old friends at the College Club meeting  and it promises to be a delightful improvisation featuring our favorite College Club “Stars.”

Cincinnati Ballet

It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to welcome you to what promises to be an energetic and stimulating year.  The meeting on September 24 promises to be an unusually beautiful yet informative event as the Cincinnati Ballet will present the program following a sumptuous lunch. This is Victoria Morgan’s twentieth year as the Artistic Director of the ballet so it will be a year of celebration!  She will talk about her twenty seasons with Cincinnati Ballet, the impact Cincinnati Ballet is having on our community and her efforts in supporting and encouraging female choreographers and leadership in the ballet world.   The Cincinnati Ballet Second Company dancers provide an exciting peek into the typical day in the life of a professional ballet dancer and performs excerpts from the Cincinnati Ballet repertoire.  Julie Sunderland explains the Cincinnati Ballet's outreach program with its classes and scholarships and also introduces the dancers and their background. Menu;  Pork tenderloin, pea salad, roasted apples, green veggies, raspberry lovely.

Organized in 1980, FRIENDS OF THE GROOM is a traveling drama company that presents short vignettes with powerful messages that will touch your heart.  The vignettes are conversations between ordinary people who are in difficult situations or are at turning points in their lives.  This meaningful presentation will be entertaining while bringing comfort and inspiration to you.

THE NEW HORIZONS DIXIELAND BAND OF CINCINNATI

The New Horizons Dixieland Band of Cincinnati offers jazz and blues in addition to Dixieland tunes.  The band is composed of men and women and includes five graduates of music conservatories.  The other musicians are amateurs who love playing this peppy and fun kind of music.  Audiences of all ages find the beat and toe-tapping melodies irresistible.  A sing-along featuring holiday favorites will allow the audience to join in the merriment.

The CWC Players are for the first time presenting an improvisation.  Cast members enlighten the audience by discussing a play they are planning.  The improvisation is based on last year's Seven Nuns in Las Vegas, but it looks like there will be lots of showgirls and only a few nuns.  Come and enjoy the fun.

CCM Senior Youth Ballet Company is made up of junior and senior high school students who are serious about ballet.  The Mini and Junior Ballet Company is made up of children ages 8 through 13 and focuses on guiding young students in their performance skills and ballet technique.  "The Carnival of Animals" and other dance selections will demonstrate their accomplishments.

What better time than springtime for an opportunity to hear three talented winners of the 2014 Jack & Lucille Wonnell Young Artist Concerto Competition, sponsored by the Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony Orchestra (BAMSO).  Their scintillating performances are from the main symphonic sections: (1) Strings, (2) Piano, (3) Brass, Reeds, and Woodwind.  The Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Michael Chertock, the distinguished keyboardist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Asst. Professor of Piano at University of Cincinnati's CCM.

Snowmen, Sleigh Bells, and Holiday Memories

What better way to begin the holiday season than a delightful holiday songfest on St. Nicholas Day!  Melissa Bonetti and other performers from the UC College Conservatory of Music (CCM) will sing a variety of those favorite melodies that put us in the gala holiday mood.  Some of the songs will be done in caroling style, some will be jazzy, and others classical.  Melissa is a master’s student at CCM with a beautiful mezzo voice who will delight all of us with her talent.

Seven Nuns At Las Vegas

This production, a comedy,  was originally performed at Notre Dame University in 1954.  It is a hilarious play about the adventures of seven nuns who find themselves in a very unique situation.  The CWC Players will delight you with this adaptation by College Club member, Carol Parsons.  You won’t want to miss it.

His wife Lisa is also a musician who will lend her vocal talents as well as her upright bass to this performance.
